  • When Is the Best Time to Bring My Reel in And How Many Times Do, I Need to Bring It in For Sharpening?

Usually, the best time to bring in your reel mower is around mid to late March after you have scalped your yard. However, if you scalp your yard with a rotary mower you can bring it in a bit earlier and beat the rush. The answer to the second part of this question is, it all depends on what you are cutting and how often you are cutting... The grass will let you know. When I say that, I mean if you took a piece of paper and cut it with a pair of scissors that would be like cutting with a reel mower, it’s a clean smooth cut. Now if you take that same paper and rip it with your fingers, in essence, you are getting the same result but, the paper has a fuzzy, hazy look and feel. That is like cutting with a dull blade, it leaves you with a white-yellowish haze. That’s when you know it’s at least time for a backlapp.
